Welcome to Forensics!
Forensics is an opportunity for any Green Lake student, grades 6-12 to learn and compete in speech, dramatic reading acting. Any student who is in good standing (we have to follow WIAA rules just like athletic teams)?may join. All students are welcome.
At Green Lake, we have two teams: Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12). Both teams are members of the WHSFA, or Wisconsin High School Forensics Association www.whsfa.org which coordinates teams and competitions state-wide. Green Lake is a part of District 8. The philosophy of WHSFA is to help students grow as public speakers more so than to produce winners. Rest assured, our students get constructive feedback after each performance that will help them become better speakers - an amazing life-long skill!
Our season begins in mid-October and ends either in February (for middle school) or April (for high school). Students are asked to practice at least once a week with one of our coaches either before school, at lunch, after school or during one of our prep hours. Compared to an athletic team, that's not a lot!
All competitions except for State are on Monday nights. Each team has at least 3 competitions. Middle School has a Conference meet, Level I, Level II and possible State. High School has Conference, Sub-District, District and possibly State. Most of our middle school competitions occur in the months of January and February. The High School competes in February and March, with State usually near the middle of April. Parents are welcome at all competitions, which normally run from about 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Please see the links posted on this page for our middle and high school information packets, which gives detailed information about expectations and categories. There are about 15 different categories for each team. They are a little different, so make sure you open the right link for your level!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Green Lake's forensics coaches, Cathy Moore at moorec@glsd.k12.wi.us, or Christine Perez at perezc@glsd.k12.wi.us.
