Summer Programs

Dear Parents:

Research has shown that many students lose the equivalent of one to two months of reading and math skills
during the summer. This learning loss can have a long-term effect on overall academic success. To help
keep our students practicing their reading and math skills during the summer Green Lake will be offering
summer school for elementary students in grades K-6. We are very happy to announce that this year,
summer school will again run in partnership with the Green Lake City Rec Program. Summer school will
run from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM with the Summer Rec program running from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Additional
information on both programs will be following soon.

Grades 4K- 6 Summer Expedition, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM, June 12 - July 13,This will include reading, math, writing and more.
Expedition will be Monday – Thursday. Details on field trips will be in the summer school and summer recreation packet.

We would like to encourage you to sign your student up for a summer of fun and learning. All classes will be
assigned according to the student’s grade during the 2015-2016 school year.

Please return the bottom of the printable registration form below to your student’s classroom teacher.

We're looking forward to another great summer of sailing school!

*Please* ... help spread the word.  We're passionate about getting Green Lake students on the water, and word-of-mouth is our best tool to reach new students.

You should be able to find most everything you need on the updated sailing school website, and hopefully this summer we'll have an option for you to register and pay online as well. Check out the fun photo galleries to remind you what summer looks like despite our currently gloomy outdoor situation :)

In a nutshell, Green Lake students have two opportunities to experience sailing:

1) through the Green Lake Public School Summer School program.  This is our 'taste of sailing' program for GL summer school students that meets once per week for the duration of GL summer school.  After completing the summer school program, your student is encouraged to join the Beginner Level 1 class through the Sailing School.  Cost is $20.  Scholarships available.

2) through the Green Lake Sailing School program.  Students have three 3-hr classes per week, and will come out of the sailing school program confident in rigging their own boat & sailing independently.  Sessions are 3 weeks long - 27 hours of instruction for $80 (that's $3/hr!!!). Family rates & Scholarships are available.

NOTE:  The sailing school has four different levels of youth instruction:  Beginner I, Beginner II, Intermediate I & Intermediate II.  Each level corresponds to different expectations of safe, independent sailing ability and boat type.  Levels are not necessarily intended to be immediately progressive; students are encouraged to take a class as often as needed to gain the confidence to sail safely before moving to the next level.  Entry into each level is at the instructor's discretion, so please register early to get your level assignment and know where sailing will fit into your schedule!

Beginner classes are M, T, Wed from 9-12
Intermediate classes are M, T, Wed from 1-4
