The Green Lake School District provides a continuum of educational services to children with disabilities. School personnel will conduct an educational evaluation and determine the student’s eligibility for special education based on one or more of the following disabilities/impairments:
Intellectual Disability
Specific Learning Disability
Emotional-Behavioral Disability
Speech/Language Impairment
Autism
Hearing Impairment
Visual Impairment
Orthopedic Impairment
Other Health Impairment
Traumatic Brain Injury
Significant Developmental Delay
Anyone with reason to suspect a child has a disability may pursue a referral for an educational-based evaluation. Those interested in pursuing a referral for evaluation should contact the Director of Special Education, School Psychologist or any building administrator for further information. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Team will determine eligibility and need for special education/related services. Special education includes specially designed instruction and related supports that are necessary for a student with one or more disabilities to participate and progress in the general education curriculum as well as to successfully transition from high school to a post-secondary school workplace and/or educational environment.
A continuum of placement and curriculum options are available to students with disabilities. The IEP Team determines the focus of instruction and placement to ensure that the student’s educational needs are appropriately met. Some examples of instruction and support might include direct instruction and support in a special education and/or general education setting, curriculum modification, progress monitoring, community-based instruction as well as a variety of related services such as school social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy, school health services, transportation, and assistive technology.
The Green Lake School District follows an inclusive model of special education. The majority of students in special education are served through our cross-categorical elementary (Pre-K - 6th grade) and junior high and high school (7-12th grade) programs. However, some students may need itinerant services or a more restrictive educational environment to facilitate educational gain. Our IEP Teams are committed to making sure that a continuum of least to most restrictive educational settings is provided to students needing special education services.
Our special education staff includes certified special education teachers, paraprofessionals, school counselors, a speech/language pathologist, school psychologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, hearing therapist, a nurse and autism specialist. We strive to provide quality education and support to our students with disabilities and their families.
